While armed organizations in the region are losing strength, central states are being strengthened with the financial and diplomatic support of imperialism. This process has reached its current point because Erdoğan has either eliminated all centers of power within the state or made them dependent on himself.

Stunning electoral news has come from a district that has been served by the same Democratic state senator since the early 1990s. An independent socialist candidate is not just in the running for Connecticut’s District 11 seat; they have made the ballot.

The SOCIALIST WORKERS’ LEAGUE is a Trotskyist political current aspiring to become the Peruvian section of the IWL-FI. A handful of men and women from various regions of the country are organizing, determined to build the liberation tool that the workers and oppressed of Peru and the world need to free ourselves from the capitalist-imperialist yoke. During the long march from Muzaffarabad last month, one in every five individuals were out on the march for the question of Kashmir. That question, is not limited to a fair share in the water resources of Kashmir, or the specific excesses of the police and armed forces on the people. It is not limited to the right to peacefully organize and agitate. The question being posed is the question of self-determination

Parts of the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico have experienced interruptions in drinking water service to their homes and businesses since the month of June. The threat of rationing has loomed over residents of the towns of Loíza and Canóvanas, while previous breakdowns in various areas were pushed to the back burner. Before the Superaqueduct broke, residents of Miraflores and Santurce had been without water for months, relying on water tankers and draining their personal finances.

On the 19th of August, the General Body meeting of FETSU (Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students Union) was attacked by the thugs of the BJP aligned students’ union ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad), who claimed that this meeting was illegitimate. It must be understood that these attacks are not new, for long Jadavpur University has been a thorn in the eyes of the BJP and the Hindutva movement.

On Friday night (the 31st) in São Paulo, The Unified Socialist Workers Party (or PSTU) officially announced their nomination of Hertz Dias' for President and Vanessa Portugal, a professor from Minas Gerais, for Vice President in the 2026 elections. The certification took place during the party's National Electoral Convention at the headquarters of the Metro Workers' Union in São Paulo, bringing together leaders, militants, and supporters from different regions of the country.

Speaking to relatives living in Iraq during this most recent eruption of war into their lives, I could only come away with a sense of admiration bordering on awe at their resilience. In phone conversations, they spoke about continuing to lead their daily lives as if the bombs are not falling, about having been through worse in the past, and about their commitment to maintain their dignity and moments of joy as states much more powerful than theirs kick Iraq around like a football.

On August 15, 2021, U.S. occupation forces withdrew from Afghanistan, putting an end to a criminal occupation that lasted 20 years — during which U.S. imperialism invested around 300 million dollars per day to sustain a corrupt puppet government, as well as a military force that committed all types of human rights violations against the Afghan population. In the five years since the end of the U.S. occupation, the new regime led by the Taliban has imposed a monopoly on violence in the hands of the State, securing de jure diplomatic recognition from Russia and de facto recognition from all of its neighbors, as well as international powers.

An earthquake is a sudden, abrupt natural movement caused by the release of energy accumulated in tectonic plates. The Earth’s movement is natural and, to a certain extent, unpredictable. But it is not natural for buildings to collapse as a result of that movement. If they collapse, it is because they are poorly constructed or have not been properly maintained. Nor is it natural for people to die under the rubble because fire and rescue departments are insufficient and poorly equipped, because they live in regions without roads such as Chocó, or because the collapsed building is a hospital.

The growing number of democratic socialists in office is one small expression of the broader discontent and desire for major reform; but can the Democratic Party really be a vehicle for radical change?

Rosa Pepper-Macias is an independent socialist from the Workers’ Voice party running for the District 11 state senate seat. She is a hotel line cook, living and working in New Haven, Connecticut, and uses any pronouns. Pepper-Macias is an outspoken and well-respected community activist, who fights to build a working-class response to the triple crises of war, climate change, and economic instability and inequality. The campaign platform centers working-class and oppressed communities while strongly opposing the Democratic Party and their neglect to make a true stand against the growing attacks on our civil liberties and democratic rights. Other prominent features of the campaign platform are the eradication of ICE and the implementation of programs to supply citizenship papers to all residing within our borders, providing equal rights for immigrants, support for the right of self-determination for Palestine, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, and Ukraine, and an immediate end to the U.S. war against Iran.

The U.S. has demonstrated that for all its military technology and infrastructure, it is not able to project power decisively in the Middle East anymore, even against states with minimal military backing from imperialist powers. The international geopolitical calculus that presumed U.S. military superiority around the world has been destroyed, and the U.S. military will be flat-footed in its responses to challenges going forward as it tries to overcome the very public munitions deficit that it just created itself.

During the campaign, we witnessed Abelardo’s sexist and homophobic remarks: crude references to his genitals, derogatory treatment of female journalists, disparagement of gay candidates, and the cultivation of an “alpha male” image as a model of power. This wasn’t just a show. It reflects a deeply entrenched ideology that reduces women to reproductive roles and attacks sexual diversity, making it impossible for him to govern equitably. His statements and campaign promises, as well as the appointment of Vivian Morales to the education portfolio, allow us to anticipate policies that will render our demands—and those of the LGBTQIA+ community—invisible.

We must consider the phenomenon of migration within the context of human history, and particularly within the context of the capitalist system. It is a system of colonization and plunder that makes survival impossible for millions of people in their homelands, especially in Africa. In light of this, defending the right to migrate becomes a moral obligation and an act of remembrance for the entire working class, particularly in Spain. We must also bear in mind that the preservation of the rights and freedoms won in Europe is partly built upon the colonization and exploitation of peoples under imperialism.

Across the country, the movement against new data centers continues to grow. Every day, in the streets and in town halls, people are speaking out against their construction. July 18 saw 142 protests in 42 states opposing data centers, with most being in Texas.
