Syrian dictatorship army, under Russian cover through air, has made an offensive move to take back the city of Aleppo, the second most important one of the country.
Since 2012, Aleppo has been divided into “influence zones”, of Al Assad troops on one side, and the rebels forces’ on the other, and since a year and a half ago, also the troops of IS (Islamic State). The combate among these forces is face to face, house by house. Anti-dictatorial troops, however, fight two different fronts: against the bloc Assad-Russia-Hezbollah-Iran, and against IS’ hordes.
Over the last days, Russian airplanes have been executing intense airstrikes, aiming to clear the road to the troops loyal to Al-Assad, and Hezbollah militiamen. The counter-revolutionary forces have taken the main road which links Turkey’s border to Aleppo’s districts, still under opposition’s control. The dictatorial advance pretends to make a siege around Aleppo, the same way it imprisons other towns, where hundreds have died of starvation. The estimated is, around four million people are ‘locked’ by the [official] Syrian army. This perspective, together with intense airstrikes, has led to a massive flight of thousands of Syrian families towards Turkey’s border, which will certainly deepen the already major problem of refugees.
Geneva’s deceive
The advance of the dictatorial troops was taken ahead at the same time a new diplomatic farse was taken place in Geneva, where, for the third time, the UNO tried to gather Al-Assad’s and oppositor’s representatives to look for a “negotiated solution” to the civil war. The ‘negotiation’ plan is well known: it basically consists of stopping fire, to then face the conformation of a “National Unity Government” and call for elections in 2017.
USA and European imperialisms mix the bombings to IS with the promotion of this policy, but do not pose, as they used to do, Assad’s administration as a solution. However, Geneva was “born death” once again. The Syrian regime does not recognize opposition’s representatives, and more, named as “terrorists”. Opposition, on their side, had excluded a wide group of militias fighting on the field, and Kurdish from Rojava.
In this context, Al-Assad’s dictatorship, feeling stronger by Russia’s open support, bets on solving the conflict via armed struggle, crushing the revolution physically. Al-Assad denied Geneva and strengthen the military offensive. This offensive over Aleppo led the UNO mediator, Staffan de Mistura, to call a quarter on Geneva talks up untill the 25th of this month.
This is one more proof of why the Arab and Kurdish rebels’ militias must not trust in any kind of negotiation with the murderer regime of Al-Assad. It is not possible to negotiate with who has blood-dirty hands of almost 400.000 Syrians! We defend there is no “diplomatic” solution for the Syrian Revolution. Geneva’s goal is to save the essence of the dictatorial regime, and the socio-economic structure of Syria, depending on the imperialism. Independently of the debate about if Al-Assad will be parte or not, and for how long, of this “transition process”, imperialism intention with the agreement with Russia and Iran, is to defeat the Syrian revolution, unarm the militias and stabilize the bases of the regime, which has been hit by the Syrian people for five years now.
The only true solution is the victory of the revolution
Despite having to fight several fronts, and to face enemies who are superior from a militar point of view, the Syrian revolution continues. Rebels’ militias are resisting the offensive tenaciously. They do it as they can, as they lack the necessary heavy weapons and military technology.
The only progressive solution for the Syrian people and Middle East and Magreb as a whole, is the defeat of the Syrian dictatorship and its allies. This would be an essencial “starting point”. In this regard, it is vital to reject any kind of “negotiated solution”, as no agreement between the imperialism and Russia’s, Iran’s or Turkey’s governaments can be good to the Syrian and Kurdish people. No “political transition” has, nor will have, the goal of fulfilling the democratic and economic demands of the Syrian people. The same way, we must repudiate the Russian airstrikes as much as USA’s, France’s and the UK’s. We must also repudiate the “special forces” from USA to Syria, which, according to Obama, would serve as advisors against IS. The ‘advisors’, like the imperialism bombings, do not have a “democratic” nor “humanitarian” goal, but the colonialist goal of maintaining, even expanding, the control over Syrian resources.
Outside Syria, it is an imperative to organize active solidarity and demande to our countries’ governaments to break democratic and commercial relations with Al-Assad’s dictatorship, and more, the incondicional support to rebel troops by sending them heavy weaponery, medicines, and all kind of provisions. In Russia, it is necessary to call the population to reject Putin’s intervention on Syria’s territory. International solidarity with the Syrian revolution is urgent. A strong support of workers’, social and democratic organizations, and of course, of the world left parties, could tilt the balance in favor of the Syrian people. It is necessary to call for demonstrations, repudiating actions in Syrian embassies, and to take any measure which might help weakening Al-Assad’s dictatorship. This is an immediate task.
For the defeat of Al-Assad, Russia, IS and the imperialism!
NO to airstrikes from USA, Russia, France and the UK!
NO to USA’s “special forces”!
NO to the counter-revolutionary pact of a “negotiated solution” for Syria!
For the Syrian revolution’s victory!
