Solidarity with the new flotilla! Let’s take to the streets to defeat Israel and Trump!
On 12 April, a new flotilla will set sail from Barcelona. Hundreds of activists are determined to break the blockade that Israel has imposed on Gaza, preventing any kind of humanitarian aid from entering. This is happening amid the inaction and complicity of European governments.
This new flotilla aims to build on the mission of the previous one. As well as seeking to force a humanitarian corridor, it is set to rebuild Gaza’s infrastructure, which is on the verge of collapse. This includes healthcare, semi-permanent shelters, water and sanitation systems, and education support.
The Zionist state is carrying out its plan to build ‘Greater Israel’, escalating tensions and attacks in the West Bank. This is further evidenced by the recent approval of the death penalty for Palestinians in the Israeli parliament — a law unseen in any country since Nazi Germany — which has yet to be condemned by any government. Furthermore, for weeks now, the Israeli army has been involved in imperialist aggression against Iran, which, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), has already claimed more than 3,300 lives. In Lebanon, it is seeking to establish illegal settlements in the south of the country and has forced the displacement of 7% of the population, killing more than 1,000 Lebanese men and women. Syria is also part of Israel’s expansion plans.
All of this is happening thanks to the inaction and complicity of Western and regional governments, who refuse to recognize the right to exist of the Palestinian people because their alliance with the genocidal state brings them great benefits. Within the Spanish State, we continue to wait for all ties with the Zionist state to be severed. Furthermore, the Centre Delàs recently reported that the Ministry of Defense did not cancel any contracts awarded to Israeli companies after 7 October 2023. These contracts total 1.208 billion euros.Furthermore, Israeli ships and those involved in the arms trade have not been denied access to the Port of Barcelona. In Bages, Catalonia, the Israeli multinational ICL operates potash mines and markets agricultural chemicals. ICL maintains ties with the Zionist army and markets white phosphorus for the bombs that Israel uses to attack Palestinians, as well as Lebanese and Iranian civilians. This type of weaponry is prohibited for use in civilian areas because it constitutes a war crime.
None of this would be possible without the unconditional support of Trump and U.S. imperialism. They continue to commit acts of aggression against other countries, following their aggression against Venezuela and Cuba, in their struggle against Chinese imperialism. However, the cost of war is high for Trump. In March, the Trump administration requested an additional $11 billion from Congress to cover the initial costs of aggression against Iran.
Trump had centered his election campaign on avoiding wars. Trump aimed to replicate the model used against Venezuela—a swift and overwhelming military strike followed by the removal of leaders and capitulation of the targeted country’s regime—but extensive Iranian counterattacks struck military bases in several Arab countries and numerous Israeli targets. It is essential to stand in solidarity with all resistance by the targeted peoples.
The price of inaction and complicity is high, and international solidarity is urgent. The last flotilla was seized by the State of Israel after 32 days at sea. Although it failed to reach Gaza’s shores and deliver its humanitarian aid, it sparked a wave of solidarity across Europe that must continue to put pressure on complicit governments. This solidarity manifested as a massive general strike in Italy that paralyzed the country by shutting down strategic sectors, as well as several days of struggle in other countries.
Corriente Roja wishes to express our full support for the new flotilla, which will include Comrade Mandi Coelho from our sister party, the PSTU-Brazil, in the International Workers’ League. In the face of barbarism and Zionist expansion, we believe that every initiative of solidarity is necessary. This new flotilla must reignite global solidarity with Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran and build an anti-imperialist, pro-Palestinian movement led by the working class. This movement must pressure governments to sever all ties with the Zionist state and ensure its complete isolation. As we said regarding the previous flotilla, what is missing is for the working class to join this solidarity movement.
We must prepare to respond to any attack on the new flotilla. We must organize within our unions, solidarity assemblies, workplaces, and schools. We must take to the streets and translate this into actions, work stoppages, and strikes that will force the government to sever relations with Israel. From militant trade unions, nationalist unions, CCOO, and UGT, we must organize a united front across the entire labor movement. We must respond from the workplaces and make it clear that if they touch one of us, they touch us all. We must make it clear that we refuse to be part of this barbarism and that, as long as international solidarity exists, the liberation of Palestine and the oppressed peoples of the world remains possible.
Solidarity with the flotilla!
PSOE-Sumar, break all ties with the Zionist state!
