Labor Federations Call For A National Day Of Action On July 12th To Increase The Struggle Against The Pension Reform

The trade unions federations are intensely working against the Pension Reform since Monday, June 24th, in the National Congress in Brasília (DF), since this is a decisive week. The Special Commission could vote the final reading of the Reform, which would be followed by it being voted in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies.

On this Tuesday morning they met leaders of the opposition parties to know how discussions are going in Congress and about the strategy of the minority representatives for the voting in the Commission. The opposition parties have already said they will vote against the final reading and try to delay the voting so that there is more time for discussion.

The union federation leaderships which are since Monday having meetings have discussed immediate actions to intensify the movement against the Reform. On the beginning of the night of Tuesday, 25rd, they have released a unified statement in which they call upon their rank-and-file and workers in general to intensify and make the maximum effort to act on the deputies’ and senators’ bases, in the airports, with leaflets, and also be present on social media, to pressure against the Reform which is being discussed on Congress.

The state of permanent mobilization must be discussed in gatherings on workplaces, schools, universities and movements.

July 12th will be a National Day of Struggle, with demonstrations, gatherings and protests in all cities and all workplaces. The union movement will also be united and reinforcing the great demonstration the students will organize in this day at Brasilia, during the National Congress of UNE (National Union of Students).

Member of the CSP-Conlutas National Executive Secretariat, Luiz Carlos Prates, alias “Mancha”, who is in Brasilia, reinforces the need for total pressure right now against the Pension Reform.

We must again organize gatherings in the factories and workplaces, pressure the parliamentarians especially where they get their votes, do demonstrations at airports, as well as organize new movements in the country. All of this must also help boost a very strong July 12th”, Mancha outlined.

CSP-Conlutas believes that only the struggle of the working class can stop this Reform and the end of pensions. That is why the duty of the unions and of all who say they defend workers is to help this struggle grow. “We must stop the entire Reform, it is not the time for negotiating a few changes“, says the CSP-Conlutas leader.

Unions in movement against the Pension Reform

The trade union federations, gathered in Brasilia on the week of June 24th, have continued their institutional movement and actions on National Congress to fight against the Pension and Social Security Reform. In meetings with representatives of various political parties, we have reaffirmed our position against the substitute report of deputy Samuel Moreira.

We renew and outline the importance of acting on Parliament and its members, to argue debate the questions and the content of this nefarious Reform. The unity of action was essential for the success of the initiatives the Union Federations. We reaffirm our commitment to continuing this unity of action.

The union federations call their rank-and-file and the workers in general to intensify and make the maximum effort to act on the deputies’ and senators’ bases, in the airports, with leaflets, and also be present on social media, to pressure against the Reform which is being discussed on Congress.

Our state of permanent mobilization, which must be debated and confirmed in gatherings at the workplaces, is the answer to stop this project and also stop the critical points from being brought back into the text.

We declare that, on July 12th, we shall organize a National Day Struggle, with demonstrations, gatherings and protests on all cities and every workplace, and that we shall be united and reinforcing the great demonstration that the UNE (National Union of Students) will organize this day on Brasilia, during its national congress.

On June 28th the Trade Union Federations will discuss this week’s work, how the process is going inside the Special Commission, and how we shall prepare for the movement on July 12th.

To invest in this movement that grows with our unity is to gather forces to convince and win this struggle.
