The Black Consciousness Day was commemorated in Brazil on November 20 due to the anniversary of the murder of Brazilian Black hero Zumbi dos Palmares on November 20, 1695.

Zumbi led the huge Quilombo dos Palmares where runaway Black slaves could live in freedom.
Another Black hero, the sailor Joao Candido led the famous whip revolt against physical punishment on Black marines on November 22, 1910.
Black resistance against slavery and racism is part of Brazilian history.
130 years after the abolition of slavery in 1888, Brazilian Blacks still have to fight back racism and recently elected racist president Jair Bolsonaro.
The Black organizations Quilombo Race and Class, Quilombo Brazil, Moquibom, People’s Struggle Movement and others led the Poor Neighbourhoods’ March in order to fight for Black rights, particularly reparation for historical oppression.
CSP-Conlutas stands in solidarity with the Black working class people and their organizations in their struggle for reparation and other social rights.
