Letter from Conlutas to the Haitian People
Once more,
The truth is, this is an intervention that is maiming the sovereignty of the Haitian people, permitting imperialism to exploit it even more and to transform the Haitian territory into a platform for export of the products of the multinationals. The Brazilian LUIS INACIO LULA DA SILVA administration is in command of the military troops on this territory and so plays the fatal role of agent of the oppressing imperialism. Brazilian toiling masses do not back this crime.
To the contrary, we want to tell the heroic Haitian people, the people who were the protagonists of the first and only victorious slave revolution, the first nation in Latin America to achieve independence, the nation who bravely challenged so many dictatorships in its history and who hosted Simon Bolivar strengthening his ideas of freedom, we want to tell these people that
We shall be at your side in the struggle for the end of the occupation of your territory and we can offer more than solidarity, for we are part of the same struggle. Even if from far away, we are fighting the joint battle against imperialist colonisation. We believe, as did Augusto Sandino, that freedom is not to be begged for; it is to be conquered.
We, the signers of this letter, are on the “operational theatre”; we are part of this scenario. We share your anguish and your suffering and we join you in the trenches of the resistance, of the quest of self-determination our people. We have the same dream of freedom. Your struggle is our struggle, your victory will be our victory, and the liberty one nation is cause for joy for the entire mankind.
For the immediate withdrawal of the Brazilian troops and those of other countries from
For the self-determination of the Haitian people.
