Argentina: the Bill was not adopted, We Must radicalize the Fight!

Despite the cold and the rain, the mobilization was over one and a half million people. The Congress turned its backs, which is common in this system ruling for the rich. However, the fight did not end.

We want to discuss with the leadership of this process, the National Campaign for the Right to Abortion, on how we should fight and what tasks lie ahead.
The mobilization process for legal abortion is massive. However, those who led it, sadly, did no push it beyond Congress and this gave “room” for the vote against it. The expectations in parliamentary agreements set an objective obstacle for the fight. The leaders of the Ni Una Menos (Not One Less) collective, along with women and political organizations, with the objective of the 2019 elections, did not rise up to the occasion.
The achievement of abortion should be obtained and this means to radicalize the fight, deepening the path of high school occupations, posing the need of a General Strike to achieve it, organizing a mobilization on 8A that took the December Days as an example. Showing to this mobilized youth that fighting is not “waiting outside to see what happens”, but also fighting the security forces if needed.
The fact that abortion is a subject everywhere is a great achievement. So are the questioning of the Church’s privileges and the right to enjoy our sexuality without having to be mothers, but we must know that we still have not won. Liz’s life was lost anyway, and if we wait one year, as the feminist leadership says, the poor will continue to die without legal abortion.
If the fight is radicalized, if the CGT and the CTA do not leave us alone as they have done so far and call a General Strike and a Struggle Plan, if we add the legalization of abortion to all struggle plans of the workers, and if we fight in the streets to oust Macri and the IMF adjustment plan, if we do all this, we will be closer to imposing legalization.
Sadly, the FIT and the rest of the left has not had a differenced policy and they also generated expectations in the anti-democratic Congress. The left-wing representatives that were so hard to achieve, should be there to multiply with their voice by millions the need to go to the streets and face the Macri administration, instead of joining mandates in 2019 as the rest of the parties.
From the PSTU we want to make this debate with those who mobilized, with those who still have doubts, with those who still have strength to fight and with those who feel defeated. To fight, to push assemblies in the workplaces, in schools and in neighborhoods.
To win legal, safe and free abortion we do not have to wait for anything, we need to continue this fight, this is the only path us women workers have to achieve our rights.
