75 years ago, San Francisco Maritime workers went on strike for union rights amidst an economic depression. Together with the Minneapolis teamsters, Toledo autoworkers, and textile workers all over US, these struggles started a victorious workers fight-back.
The best way to honor this legacy was an International Labor Conference held in San Francisco from July 3rd until July 6th. Participants from seven countries (Japan, Korea, Philippines, Turkey, Italy, Brazil and the US) discussed the need to defend workers’ jobs and rights through a class struggle perspective, supporting the immigrants and opposing labor-capital partnerships and imperialist wars.
The participants took part in the beautiful San Francisco General Strike commemorative march, together with attending a picket line of Unite Here Union and the rally supporting SF 8 (former Black Panther Party fighters being persecuted by the state).
