São José dos Campos, September 1, 2017
In a clear attack on the organization of the workers, General Motors Brazil dismissed a leader of the Metalworkers Trade Union of São José dos Campos and Region, affiliated to the CSP-Conlutas, and a member of the factory Safety Committee, who is also an activist at the same union. Besides that, General Motors suspended from work for 15 days another leader of the Union. These attitudes are serious attacks on the freedom of association and it needs to be rejected nationally and internationally.
The dismissals of the trade unionist Célio Dias da Silva, better known as Celião, and the Safety Committee member called Serginho, as the suspension of the union leader Alex da Silva Gomes, took place in the midst of the contract negotiation of the metal worker sector, becoming an evident case of political persecution.
In all cases, the punishments came right after two assemblies on the contract negotiation and the mobilizations against the effects of the labor reform.
Before the authoritarianism and the abuse on behalf of the management of the assembly plant, we ask the entire trade union movement to send a motion (model below) of rejection to the dismissals and the demand of immediate reintegration of our co-workers Celião, Serginho and Alex.

MOTION OF REJECTION TO THE GENERAL MOTORS PERSECUTION AGAINST UNION ACTIVISTS
The dismissals of union leader Célio Dias da Silva and the Safety Committee member Serginho, as the suspension of the Union leader Alex da Silva Gomes, on behalf of the management of General Motors, in São José dos Campos, deserves complete rejection for arbitrariness.
This attitude is a serious attack on the entire metal worker sector and to Brazilian and international trade union movement. When, in Brazil, there is an attempt to weaken the trade unions and worsen labor conditions.
In defense of the right of freedom of association, we demand the immediate reintegration of our coworkers, Celião, Serginho and Alex.
