The Trotskyist conception of the International

In these extracts from the text “Our Experience with Lambertism”, one can find one of the best definitions of what Moreno considered to be the Trotskyist conception of the International.

“As far as we are concerned, following what we believe to be Trotsky’s conception and practice, the first, the decisive, the fundamental problem we must pose to ourselves is the construction of an international organisation and its leadership.”

“Trotskyism is the synonym of international organisation and leadership, opposed to Stalinism in all its variants (Muscovite, Maoist or Castroist), social democracy and petty-bourgeois nationalism of the Sandinista type, who do not wish and do not build workers’ revolutionary international organisations and leaderships.”

“We believe that international organisation and the leadership constitute a different category, superior to any national organisation and leadership, no matter how big and capable they may be”.

“A national leadership is doomed to failure unless it is an active part of the construction of an international leadership in the same way as every trade union leadership, no matter how classist and how fighting it may be, is doomed to fail unless it fights for a classist and revolutionary leadership for the entire workers’ movement.”

“… just as there can be no life without oxygen, there can be no real Trotskyism without international leadership and organisation.”
