Protests on Land’s Day in Palestine

Today, March 30, the Palestinians took the streets to demand Free Palestine.

In the West Bank there were protests in many villages and all main cities like Ramallah, Qalqilya, Nablus, Jenin, Bethlehem and Al Khalil.

A beautiful demonstration was held in Sakhnin in the Galilee located in the 1948 Occupied Palestine, the same place where 6 Palestinian were killed in 1976 for fighting for their land.

The largest demonstration was held in Gaza, where 100 thousand Palestinians walked to the fence on the border of Gaza and 1948 Palestinian territories under heavy rain. Shops and workplaces closed bringing Gaza Strip to a standstill. Three Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers, 244 were injured, 5 of them deeply.

For a year Gazans held weekly demonstrations called The Great March of Return for their right to return for their lands in 1948 Occupied Palestine and to finish the 12-year blockage on Gaza Strip.

269 Palestinians were killed by Israelis in the last 12 months. 50 of them were children, 6 were women, 3 medical workers and 2 journalists. 30,398 were injured.

The Hamas-linked newspaper Al-Risalah announced a truce around few concessions to the Gazans. Among them an increase in Qatari funding to pay wages in Gaza from US$ 15 to US$ 40 million, the extension of the fishing zone from 9 to 12 nautical miles, larger supply of energy and a desalination plant to provide safe water.

The Palestinian Land’s Day happens simultaneously to huge 1-million protest in Algeria and an intifada in Sudan, both against the regime.
