It was the only Front that expressed support to the workers along the campaign, against layoffs and repression in Pepsico, which posed the Front as a reference to an important sector of workers.
By PSTU – Argentina.

The FIT got nearly 1 million votes, which is 30% above the last election result, surpassing the proscriptive requirements in 22 provinces.
We think that the highly wrong parliamentary action in De Vido’s case, voting together with Kircherismo – as previously voting the Cambiemos’ Project 2×1 together with all bosses’ parties, has limited a result that is good but could have been higher.
From the PSTU in the FIT, we carried out a campaign ordered by or working and activist candidates with a clear class independence profile, against the adjustment, and for a workers’ socialist solution. To us, beyond the result in numbers, the campaign’s gain is to strongly install in the biggest workers’ concentrations the idea that there is a solution at the service of workers, and that we will only defeat Macri’s adjustment through mobilization. The result in numbers opens a great opportunity of giving this campaign a national range.
The PASO left the IFS out
The proscriptive requirements of the PASO[1] left Izquierda al Frente por el Socialismo (MST + Nuevo MAS) in the most important districts: Buenos Aires and Capital Federal.
The national polarization, the pre-existence of a left front like the FIT, and decisions like the MST’s of going in a front with Del Frade in Santa Fe affected this results. In this case, the Nuevo MAS (the other party of the IFS) had to call to vote for the FIT in the province, what weakened the IFS – despite the local numbers in general.
As a result of the proscriptive mechanism of the PASO, the front was eliminated in the most important districts, together with other minor forces like Patria Grande. This is a demonstration of the true goal of this filter implemented in 2011, which is to proscribe political forces. We strongly denunciate this on each election, since then. We are fully against the proscription of any party through this mechanism that aims to avoid people from voting who they believe should rule to force them to vote for some other option instead.
An Electoral Front with all Left Parties
With the FIT’s results and the proscription of the IFS, it was demonstrated the that the division favors the proscription and limits the real space of the Left in the elections. As Ámbito and Página 12 point out, the total of votes obtained by the Left across the country (FIT, IFS, Zamora) is about 2 million, which is twice the result of the FIT.
From the PSTU we posed the necessity of forming a broad front with those sectors that defend a class independence program, of struggle against Macri’s and the local governors’ adjustment, and for a true anti-imperialist, workers’, socialist solution, and to show in practice that they support such program.
Sadly, the pettiness and political decisions of one and the other [IFS and FIT] have avoided the electoral unity that could have given more strength to a campaign of denunciation of the regime and proposal for a workers’ solution.
***
Notes:
[1] Primarias Abiertas Simultáneas y Obligatorias [Simultaneous and Mandatory Open Primaries].
