That is what was seen just now against an Irish woman, whom Ben-Gvir himself shoved to force her to kneel. The scenes are truly bizarre: 428 people forced to kneel, with their heads on the ground and plastic zip ties tightened around their hands.\n\nAs part of the torture, they were forced to listen to the Zionist anthem. \u201cWelcome to Israel!\u201d Ben-Gvir sneered. He was mimicking another minister, Transport Minister Miri Regev, who also posted a video on her social media with the image of the hostages from the flotilla in the background.\n\nThe attempt to reverse the diplomatic crisis and global condemnation\u2014with several countries such as France, Italy, Canada, and the Netherlands announcing they would recall Israeli ambassadors, a gesture of reprimand and a sign of diplomatic discontent\u2014was to present Ben-Gvir as an \u201cextremist,\u201d an exception. On the other hand, we know that abandoning the legal arena means abandoning the working class and the youth to repression without defense. \n<\/div>\n

A little over a decade ago, millions of workers around the world placed similar hopes in SYRIZA, the left-wing coalition that came to power in Greece promising to end austerity without breaking with the euro\u2014as if history, in its finest irony, could resolve its contradictions without walking the razor\u2019s edge of rupture. Its rise and, above all, its capitulation to the Troika\u2014the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, responsible for overseeing the eurozone\u2019s adjustment and bailout programs\u2014constitute one of the most important strategic experiences of the left in the 21st century. A broad international debate unfolded around SYRIZA regarding what kind of political organization the working class needed in the wake of the crisis of social democracy, in which proposals emerged to form \u201cbroad-based parties\u201d and \u201cnew left-wing formations,\u201d conceived as electoral coalitions that would bring together different political traditions under a deliberately open program. Revisiting that experience is not merely a matter of historical interest, since many of the fundamental discussions that took place then have been reignited today within the Argentine left.<\/div>\n
