Video: Assad’s Barrel Bombs

The following documentary is one produced by Syrian Media activists based in the neighborhood of Daraya, in the Syrian Capital of Damascus, still occupied by the Assad regime.

One of the marking features of all Arab Revolutions, and the Syrian revolution in particular, is a significant upsurge in independent media production. In Syria, where no international journalists are allowed access, and a country declared by Amnesty International as “The most deadliest country for journalists”, such documentaries are our only chance of getting a glimpse at the revolution.

Before the eruption of the Syrian revolution in March 2011, Daraya was a working class neighborhood located 7 kilometers from the center of the capital, and one of the first areas in Damascus to revolt against the Assad regime. It has been a rebel strong-hold for the past year and a half, under a strong siege where no food or medicine can come in, with both civilian and guerrillas trapped inside. Daraya has suffered already some of the most atrocious massacres of the Syrian regime, when as early as August 2012, 400 civilians were massacred by militias with knives in house-to-house searches, uptil the chemical weapon massacre in August 2013.

While the Syrian Bourgeois Opposition shares negotiation tables to abort the revolutionary process with the Syrian Assad Regime, in a convention in Geneva organized and over looked by a Russo-American alliance and the United nations, 82 Barrel bombs fell on the neighborhood. Barrel bombs are TNT explosive filled bombs that are designed to free-fall from airplanes and helicopters, with no capacity of surgically targeting buildings or troops and only to bombard haphazardly entire neighborhoods. Upon contact, they create gigantic waves of very high pressure and heat, and a large amount of shrapnel, with an effect-diameter of 7-250 meters.

This activist produced documentary is a tribute to the brave media activists of the neighborhood. It shows a Free Syrian Army soldier denouncing the Bourgeois opposition for participating in negotiations with the regime, mediated by Imperialism, and promises that they will march on to get Bashar Al Assad.
