Workers carried out a major labor and people’s national strike in Peru on June 20, 2019.

They are standing up for labor and social rights.
One major issue is the so called “Competitiveness and Productivity” Bill which decreases both holidays and compensation for dismissals (called CTS).
Furthermore, it prevents workers from resorting to the courts in case of unfair dismissal.
Other people’s issues like the opposition both to tolls in the Panamerican Highway near “PuentePiedra” and the privileges for major mining company “Las Bambas” were also in the agenda.
A huge demonstration in downtown Lima in front of the parliament and the presidential house were the final action of the day.
