The general strike was decided by Workers’ and People’s National Meeting held on February 8-9, 2019.
The working class wants to stop the so called “Development National Plan” announced by President Ivan Duque.
Despite of the name, that Plan is focused on austerity measures like Labor Reform, Pension Reform and Budget Cuts.
Labor Unions and Social Movements have been fighting back Ivan Duque neoliberal policies.
University students stood up in the end of 2018 demanding funding to public universities.
Native-Colombians and Peasants on the Pacific Coast have been fighting for land.
Recently they blocked the Pan American Highway.
This general strike was a step towards a larger struggle for labor and people’s rights.
