In front of May 21st events in Valparaíso, Izquierda Comunista states:
1-A workers’ death is a strike to the working class as a whole. Nothing justifies this fact: Eduardo Lara, 71 year-old, was locked at work, in the dependences of the Municipality led by Jorge Castro.
Facts like this exist all over the country, and politicians show no discomfort about it. There are thousands of elder being forced to accept jobs close to slavery, because the scam of the AFPs [pension fund management companies] does not allow them to access a decent pension.
We deliver our sincere condolences to the family and coworkers.
2- The members of Izquierda Communista were present in Valparaíso, next to many other organizations, as we consider it is our right to denounce the government and the parliament, that every May 21st gather to celebrate the implementation of their plans that are drowning us into a deep crisis.
3- The demonstration was close to its destination, moving forward and chanting slogans, when suddenly a group of ‘hooded’, strongly armed with iron bars, combos, fuel barrels, among other weapons, just started to hit the rolling steel shutter in front of the carabineros [Chilean Police], entered the pharmacy and started throwing cosmetics, computers and other objects to the streets. Time passed and not one police officer came close to where we were. One of them threw a Molotov that started a fire, at the same time two water tanks sprayed water over the demonstrators, despite people was screaming and making signals for them to point the water to the fire. In the middle of this, we saw some of the ‘hooded’ with tear gas bombs in their hands, calmly walking in front of the police.
4- The members of Izquierda Comunista vindicate the organized violence of workers and the people when their defending themselves from the bosses and the militarized police attacks, when they repress social demonstrations. With the same conviction, we reject and repudiate individual acts of violence, because it is proven they help increasing an indiscriminate repression to protesters, and such actions are always used to strengthen the State laws on this matter.
5-The denounce made by the Municipal Secretary, Mariela Valdés, exposes the conditions Eduardo Lara worked in, which together with the actions of the ‘hooded’ ended up causing his death.
6-Undoubtedly, the regrettable events reaped a worker’s life and this must be rigorously investigated. How is it possible the same day, 30 minutes before, all security cameras were disconnected? How is it possible they ignored the Municipal Secretary, who was informing the worker was in there? These are legitimate questions we have.
From Izquierda Comunista we say strongly: We do not trust the Investigation the Public Ministry will conduct, neither the resolutions of the Judiciary, as we have made the experience with them. This is why we make a call to all left, political, social organizations and classist unions to not be blackmailed by the media manipulation and the politicians who govern and rule against the workers, that just today launched a witch’s hunt against social activists.
What happened imposes us to organize the mobilization more and better, by creating self-defense committees, against the repressive forces as much as against the ‘lumpen’ that act with impunity; we know the pro-imperialist, traitor parties hire them during electoral campaigns.
We cannot let them act inside our demonstrations through a declassed sector, and prepares the road for more and more criminalization of the social protest.
Stop repression.
No trust in the bourgeois justice.
Popular Courts conformed by HR, social and union organizations, to bring light to Eduardo Lara’s death.
The main responsible is the capitalist system, the government and the entire political-repressive architecture of the dictatorship.
